Learn How To Set Up Your Twitter Account
Thinking about Twitter? Not quite sure what Twitter is? Twitter is a free social networking message service where you can broadcast short messages and links. It also gives you the opportunity to message others and promote your ideas. It is helpful in promoting your web site because Google is now considering links in your Tweets as part of your web site’s popularity. So, are you thinking about getting a Twitter account for yourself of your business? Here is a step-by-step guide on how to set up your Twitter account.
STEP ONE: SIGNING UP FOR TWITTER
Go to http://www.twitter.com. This page will pop up. Fill in your name, email, and set a password, then click on SIGN UP FOR TWITTER.
STEP TWO: CREATING YOUR ACCOUNT
This page will come up and let you know if everything is out of place or if your email is attached to another account. It is here that you can also choose your Twitter handle. Once you see that everything is all right, you can hit the yellow button that says, “Create my account“.
Special note: If you are planning on using this Twitter account to brand your business, I would suggest using your domain name, minus the dot com, dot net or extensions. Do not use any forward slash marks (“/”), either. If this Twitter account is for your personal use, you can choose any name you like.
STEP THREE: CONFIRM YOUR ACCOUNT
Now go to your email account and confirm your membership in Twitter. If you do not see the confirmation email after a few minutes, check your spam folder. To confirm, simply click on the link that Twitter sent you.
STEP FOUR: START FOLLOWING PEOPLE
You can now start picking people to follow. This can be people you know or famous people. There are a few ways to do this. You can choose the people that Twitter suggests for you or you can type in a famous person’s name. That person should pop up. If you click on the @Connect button at the top of the page, you will find more suggestions in the links on the left hand side of the page. One of these links is Find Friends. Click on it. From here, you can find your friends from your Gmail, Hotmail, Yahoo, and AOL accounts. You can also type in a person’s email address to invite them to follow you.
STEP FIVE: YOU ARE READY FOR YOUR FIRST TWEET!
You are now ready to start tweeting. Remember, posting links with your business will be recognized by Google even if Tweets are no-follow. Simply put together a tweet with 140 characters or less and click the post button. You are Tweeting! Good luck and many you get many followers.
